Hello I've been looking for info on what I believe to be a vintage Schecter Strat. I'm no expert but have been trying to gather as much information as I can. I was wondering if you could take a look at these pictures and tell me what you think: http://picasaweb.google.com/peterjamesfreer/DragAndDrop?authkey=Gv1sRgCKPUwvuxkdq7ZQ&feat=email#slideshow/5392660742599420914The owner has told me that the original neck was replaced by a warmoth neck and the neck pickup was replaced as well (he said original neck had a brass nut). He though the blade humbucker in the bridge might be original and that the neck had the same pickup at one time. It looks similar to this guitar on the Schecter forum and he mentioned the original neck said Schecter Guitar Research. http://www.schecterforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=2177But the input jack is on the side of the body not on the front like a normal strat or early dream machine. He said he thought it was from '79 or '80, would this configuration be possible form this time period? Could you clear any of this up for me? It would be much appreciated. Lastly if you could give me an idea what I should offer for it given all the non-original elements it would be much appreciated. Thanks for your time

Well I picked the guitar up today for $370 Canadian and it's definitely an old Schecter. The name is burned into the neck pickup cavity and it has the Allen Bradley Push/Pull volume pots and most of the original wiring. The pickups are a bit of a mystery and mess. The neck is a Dimarzio Bridge pickup and there is a Bill Lawrence blade Humbucker pickup in the bridge...Beautiful wood for the boddy and nicely cut...maybe rosewood? It's hard to tell, I'm no expert and there are no serial numbers anywhere else on the guitar. The only ID is the branded Schecter name in the neck cavity. Some pics coming soon.

Well in my quest to find out more I emailed Tom Anderson himself and he had this to say:
hi mike, looks like claro walnut from california to me. we used a fair amount of that back then. tom
Apparently neither of the pickups are original though...

Very nice looking guitar! Of course the guitars that are made completely in Van Nuys by the Schecter staff have a strong following but I have to say I really love these players guitars consisting of (some) Schecter parts. Being mainly a parts supplier Schecter must have sold huge amounts (how huge actually, does anyone know?) of parts that went into great guitar projects. I guess one of the best things about a Schecter strat body routed for humbuckers is it's light weight, isn't it? According to your face weight and sound seem to be all right. By the way: The pickup with the blades looks like an OBL to me.
Cheers,
Nils

This guitar is so heavy it's almost funny. I don't notice it much until I pick up a "normal" guitar. It's a bit shocking actually. Never gave me a problem when I'm wearing it though, the body feels so sweet.
The blade pickup WAS an original Bill Lawrence that I sold to pay for the Harmonic Design Z-90 pickups I have in there now. It was a nice sounding pickup but the size was too small for the string spacing and it had trouble picking up the high 'e' string. I feel really lucky to have this guitar. It looks great and unique and sounds better!

lust unt furry.
I have the dual humbucker schecter that you linked to. Our guitars, separated at birth.
I noticed that your guitar lacks stamping in the neck pocket but clearly has the brand in the pickup cavity. Mine is exactly the same.
Some posters on the forum seem to think that this means the guitars were made in the 70s prior to the shop procedure for numbering wood, body and neck types with a unique impression.
Who knows. What I do know is that my guitar is heavier than an M-1 Abrams. And that the Z-1 pickups scorch.
